The Lost City of Gaxmoor, I successfully avoided when I noticed the "house rules" recommended by the Gygax boys (Ernie and Luke? What are they, hillbillies?), which included requiring to hit rolls for Magic Missile and various magic rules that served only to unbalance things. The Codex of Erde was a huge disappointment to me - poor writing, place names ripped from this world and placed in utterly jarring contexts to anyone who's studied history or an atlas, a race that doubles as a class, and a full-color map available for only an additional $15. A Lion in the Ropes was hopelessly predictable and flawed. Of the Troll Lord stuff I've read/examined, I found The Malady of Kings and The Mortality of Green both rather nice adventures. The old 7th Sea trick, and a sure-fire way to not get my gaming money. The things I noticed almost immediately were the large typeface on the body text and the fat margins.
